I AM ENE PIIR
I am a fifth-generation artisan. My creations are deeply inspired by family traditions.
My childhood was filled with my grandmother’s exquisite embroidery and my mother’s skilful hands that sewed, knitted, embroidered, crocheted, and painted. This is how I discovered the magic of art and handicraft at an early age and began creating it myself.
My creative journey began in early childhood.
My first encounters with handicraft took place before I started school, when I sewed clothes for my dolls. My mother cut out the pieces, and I tried my best to sew them together.
In second grade, I received a battery-powered sewing machine, Piko, as a birthday present. It was a big step forward, and I was overjoyed! I remember sewing several trouser suits and numerous dresses for my dolls.
Later, during my primary school years, I helped my mother with lighter tasks under her guidance, such as making sewing patterns, basting pieces together, and doing simpler embroidery work.
Among the items made in school craft classes were several of my works that were sent to a nationwide handicraft exhibition.
These early experiences deepened my love for handicraft. In addition, I drew and painted a lot, which led me to a children’s art school where I was able to further develop my skills.
My very first job was as a weaver in an art factory, where, to everyone’s surprise – including my own – I amazed my colleagues with my skill. However, life took me in another direction – I graduated in accounting with honours (Cum Laude), and my main job as an accountant continues to this day.
Nevertheless, art and handicraft have always been my passion and soul food. I have continuously developed myself through various craft and art courses, learning drawing, painting, calligraphy, porcelain painting, stained glass, wood carving, intarsia, felting, jewellery making, and much more. It has been my way of spending free time creatively and meaningfully.
I have worked as a craft instructor for many years, guiding thousands of enthusiasts across Estonia.
Currently, I practice handicraft as a hobby, for my own joy and that of others. My creations range from delicate beadwork and toy making to Christmas decorations and furniture restoration. Each piece is made with love and care to bring warmth and joy to both myself and those who enjoy my work.
For me, handicraft is more than just a skill – it is a lifestyle, a way to create beauty around me, and a way to share it with the world.
